Ahead of Adult Swim‘s upfront next Wednesday, which will feature a performance by Kanye West, the network has set a slate of new animated and live-action series, pilots and specials. It includes previously announced new half-hour animated comedy series Rick And Morty, from Community creator Dan Harmon and Justin Roiland, which is set to premiere in primetime later this year; a Mike Tyson quarter-hour animated series featuring the former boxer as a mystery solver; and off-network acquisition Bob’s Burgers, which launches this summer. 2013 marks Adult Swim’s most-watched year to date among adults and males 18-24, 18-34, and 18-49. Here are details about the network’s new original series, specials and pilots:

Team Unicorn– Team Unicorn is a modern send-up of Saturday morning kids’ shows featuring a team of four sexy, culture-obsessed heroines who present darkly ironic twists on 80′s cartoon tropes. From the creators of Space Ghost Coast toCoast) Live-action quarter-hour.

You see this type of gaming in everything from Donkey Kong to Super Mario Brothers to Assassin’s Creed.   And since we were focusing so much on the games influenced by platforming, OF COURSE we wanted to dress up a little.

While Parkour/Freerunning is an insane workout under any circumstances, what the video isn’t showing you is that we were shooting overnight from 8pm to 6am.  The energy drinks were free flowing almost as much as the sleep-deprivation-induced profanity. “Fuck you, Bear!” became somewhat of a mantra on the day, as we frail GameChanging humans couldn’t compete with the amazingness of the Tempest Academy team.  The Tempest Academy parkour gym is where just about every parkour training video in LA has been filmed, and was painted in the ultimate awesome style of the Mario Brothers by the fantabulous friend of Team Unicorn: Greg Aronowitz (is there NOTHING that man can’t do?)

As you’ll see above, I couldn’t outrun the main guy even when he was hampered by a bear suit!  But what makes me EXTREMELY sad is when I was caught on the obstacle course, the cameras somehow missed my punching that bear in the fucking face.  I would happily wake up to that .gif every morning.

My poor little five year old PC just couldn’t keep up with my World of Warcraft raiding demands, (i.e. going to like 2 frames per second during the latest boss kill) so for the sake of mine and my guildmates’ sanity, it was time to upgrade.   Naturally the most important decision was what to name my newest little technobaby!  My last two harddrives had been named Skynet and The Matrix, so it had a lot to live up to.  I opened suggestions up to Twitter and was happy and yet not surprised at all about the fantastic ideas.   True to one of the things I love about the nerd world; there were still a few suggestions I had to look up, teaching me yet again that there is always more out there to enjoy. So here is the list of my favorite geektastic suggestions for a new CPU. I tried to give credit to the first person to suggest the name; there were more than a couple duplicates. P.S. – I ended up naming it “Crystal Tokyo.”  (Crystal Moon Power!!)

Whether you’ve read the books or  not, the TV show always has a lot to discuss because of all the delightful character details and conversations that you can absolutely imagine happening behind the scenes, but were never actually written.  It’s a huge credit to the writers that the dialogue is completely on par with the most venom-dripping words George RR ever put down on paper.

Between Joffrey’s newfound lows of sociopathic depravity to showing just how heartless Littlefinger can be, the episode wasn’t physically action-packed, but rather a verbal assault on all our favorite characters.  You have to hang on every word in order to get the most out of the latest episode, and there was so much going on that we nearly forgot to discuss my favorite pairing of Jamie and Brienne.

GameChangers takes stuff like jetpacks, parkour, zombies and other awesome video game action and brings it to the real world.  Produced by Stage 5 TV, I cohost alongside Lee Reherman (former American Gladiator, “Hawk”) and  Ryan Welsh (Bite Me).  This first episode strapped me and my fellow hosts into jet packs, decided that wasn’t cool enough, and added paintball guns for us to DUEL TO THE DEATH.

On March 30th, the peeps over at the awesome YouTube channel Geek & Sundry are hosting International TableTop Day.  The main event will be livestreamed at the G&S offices, but the whole point of the day is that people all over the world will e organizing and hosting tabletop gaming events.  Huzzah!

In support of my friends at Geek & Sundry, I made this short calling all gamers to arms to ensure that Felicia Day and Wil Wheaton don’t support TableTop Day alone.

I’m not gonna lie, I’m kind of psyched to play some Monty Python Fluxx. (LOVE that game!)

Chris Zerby and Dave Foy wrote the music, Team Unicorn did the lyrics.  We’ve actually had this song for the better part of two years, but we knew pretty much from the beginning what kind of video we wanted for it and just didn’t have the money to make it the way we wanted.  Along comes Stage 5 TV (part of Red 5 Studios).   They’re also the awesome people behind the Firefall video game and my very own webseries GameChangers!  The video was directed by “Geek and Gamer Girls” alum Dave Yarvo and features cameos from (Badass) Aisha Tyler, Mythbusters’ Grant Imahara and the parody king himself, Weird Al Yankovic!

I have to say we couldn’t have asked for a better Dr. Claw.  Did everyone see Mad Cat on the desk? ;)

I truly can’t wait for the full music video to premiere.  I can’t wait for you all to see the super secret Big Bad, the evilest supervillain of them all who is out to thwart Team Unicorn from saving the world.  March 4th, people!

We shot the bulk of it in a single day out at SC Village, a paintball park about an hour outside of town.  It was BALLS COLD.  That’s the technical term for 29 effing degrees Farenheit, aka THE TEMPERATURE WHEN WE ARRIVED.  We were going for post-apocalyptic in a very real way!  Our nerd army rallied bravely as well; we did the best we could to keep everyone warm and moving.  

I’ll have a more in-depth blog post on March 4th when the whole shebang premieres.  Besides the video, which I think it awesomesauce, we have the song itself, which we wrote over a year and a half ago and have been waiting for the right time to put the music video together for.  Hope you guys are as happy with it as we are! :)

While I’ve worked with Red 5 before (webseries! coming soon! :) ) on my own, the rest of the Team hadn’t gotten to meet with them yet. So as part of their promotion for Firefall (a free-to-play MMORPG), Red 5 was launching a week long affair called Firefall Fest, where they invited various people to come and play for a few hours to try out the game for themselves! Live. Streaming.

It was especially cool for me because I got to see the set where my in-studio stuff for the webseries with Red 5 would also be shooting. It looks so cool!!!

I can’t wait to start filming again (And I’m not saying any more about it. The name may change and I don’t want to start teasing it too soon. But SO fun! :))

Oh, sure. THEY got a Tiki Bar. Forget that we started at 10am, Unicorns demand shots before shooting.

While none of us are strangers to MMORPGs, Milynn and I were probably the most experienced at them and I was the only one who had played any bit of Firefall thus far (the game is only for PC and unfortunately doesn’t have a Mac build yet). The game really is beautiful and wonderfully detailed, especially for a free-to-play. It also reiterated to me that I REALLY need to get my glasses replaced. Damn screens were about 20 feet away and as bad as I am at PVP normally, it’s nothing compared to how bad I could be when I wasn’t a foot and a half away from my computer. ;) Still, the community couldn’t have been more welcoming (Thanks guys to all of you that came out and played along with us).

Red 5 made a serious tactical error fairly soon on in the stream, however. Oh yes, mistakes were made.

Word to the wise, my friends. NEVER give a unicorn a toy if you want them to focus. ESPECIALLY a My Little Pony unicorn toy! Hopefully we calmed ourselves relatively quickly, but the initial squeeing had to have been heard from space. If astronauts had supersonic bat hearing.

It was an extremely thoughtful and fun gift (and shows they do indeed know what we like). I don’t know if getting them in our colors was deliberate or not (if you pay attention, you’ll notice each of us tend to stay the same color no matter what we dress up as), but that was an extra awesome touch.

The stream continues all this week and concludes Saturday with Nathan Fillion and Alison Haislip playing through the evening. Don’t miss it!
